No Shave November…and other November Observances

This month, the men will put down the razors and let their facial hair grow.

Why will they be ditching the razor and letting their mustaches go wild? You may not know that there is a purpose behind this yearly tradition. Movember is the movement to change the face of men’s health. The global charity aims to raise money and awareness to fight prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health challenges.

Movember is just one cause people are promoting this month. November carries several health awareness observances. Let’s take a look at a few.

American Diabetes Month

Programs this month focus on raising awareness of the health issues surrounding the increasingly common condition. Nearly 26 million children and adults in America are living with Diabetes. The numbers get even more staggering — about 79 million more individuals in the country have prediabetes and are at risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes. With numbers like that, it is time to take action.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month

This month groups educate their communities about the serious health issues related to lung cancer. Lung cancer affects over 370,000 Americans every year. This month we focus on causes, symptoms, treatments and research being done to reduce the reach of lung cancer.

National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and Family Caregivers Month

November is set aside to honor the millions of caregivers that support those living with Alzheimer’s disease. Groups raise funds and awareness of the disease that affects more than 5 million Americans.

At Test Smartly Labs Kansas City North, we’re committed to sharing educational resources. Stay tuned to our blog for more information about these and other health observances.
