Back to School Vaccinations: What You Need to Know in Kansas City

Vaccinations are an important part of a child’s health, growth and development. In order to keep students, teachers and staff safe, both Kansas and Missouri have strict guidelines regarding immunizations that every child must have before he or she attends school. Since school is back in session and it’s National Immunization Awareness Month, now more than ever, parents should be educated on local immunization requirements!.

Kansas Immunization Requirements

Before a child is allowed enter kindergarten, the State of Kansas requires that children must have the following vaccinations to enter school:

  • DTaP/DT/Td/Tdap (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis). A single Tdap is required for grades 7-12.

  • Polio

  • HEP B (Hepatitis B)Vaccination

  • Varicella (Chickenpox)

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)

  • HIB (Haemophilus Influenza Type B) Required for children under five for preschool or school-operated child care.

  • PCV (Pneumococcal Conjugate) Required for children under five for preschool or child care operated by a school.

  • HEP A (Hepatitis A)  Required for children under five for preschool or child care operated by a school.

  • Rotavirus (Not required for school entry, but recommended for children under eight months.)

  • HPV (Human Papillomavirus) Recommended for children 11-12 years old, but not required for school entry.

Missouri Requirements
